Fr. Silvio Sassi, born in Vezzano sul Crostolo (Reggio Emilia-Italy) on 10-7-1949, entered the Congregation in the house of Modena in 1960; he made his first profession in 1967 and was ordained priest in 1977. Having obtained the Licentiate in Theology at the Seraphicum (Rome, 1977) he took specialized studies in the sciences of communication at the University of Sorbonne (Paris III) during the years 1977 – 1981. He finished his studies as researcher of semiology at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris, 1983) with a thesis on the semiology of advertising. From 1983 he was the Director of the Studio Paolino Internazionale della Comunicazione Sociale where, until 1998, he also taught semiology, linguistics and advertising. He is a professor of Ethics and Communication at the Istituto Superiore di Teologia Morale Accademia Alfonsiana (Rome). Twice he was elected Provincial Councilor. Since 1999, he has been the Director General of the apostolic activities in Italy.
